On Saturday, August 15, the Colorado Rolling Rapids went to the DICK'S Sporting Goods Park for Colorado Rapids vs Sporting Kansas City match. It turned into one of the best team nights we've had all year. A big thank you to Caitlin for setting it up and getting us free front-row seats.

The game was more fun than I expected
Growing up, I watched a lot of American football. Soccer always sounded slow and boring to me. I was wrong.
The match was intense. Both teams went back and forth in the first half, trying to get into good scoring spots. Colorado scored first, and that moment felt great. The crowd built up, the tension grew, and then the goal came. That is what makes soccer fun for me, and it is a lot like power soccer in that way—every touch matters. You need skill and consistency to move the ball down the field.
I still think many Americans prefer football because it feels faster and more action-packed. Soccer asks for patience. Even so, I think more people have gotten into soccer since the 2026 World Cup. I was not a big soccer fan as a kid, but sitting in the front row, I really enjoyed it.
Cards and a joke about Levi
Two Sporting Kansas City players got red cards. One was sent off because he kicked and mouthed off to a Rapids player after he tripped him on purpose. Personally, I can't stand when players do this, and it's just plain dumb to me.
We joked with Levi about it since he got a yellow card this season from George Ostrom, a referee we respect a lot in Power Soccer. We all said that the Kansas City player reminded us of Levi.
Halftime on the field
The best moment of the night came at halftime. Caitlin brought our team onto the field, and the announcer said our team name and stated that we are the Presidents Division National Champions.
It still feels unreal. I keep thinking about how close our semifinal win over Lakeshore Force was. Hearing “national champions” over a stadium speaker hits different. First place gets announced in a way second or third never does.
Walking onto that field, I felt like the Colorado Rapids and Caitlin saw us as real athletes. We use wheelchairs, but we want the same things every athlete wants. We want to work hard as a team, compete at a high level, and kick some ass.
I saved Dom by accident
The funniest part came after halftime. We went back to our seats, and Dom and I switched places for the second half.
About twenty minutes in, the ball went out of play, hit the stair rail, and bounced into the side of my knee. It did not hurt. What made it funny is that I was sitting exactly where Dom had been in the first half. The ball did not leave the field many times that night, and it found my spot. So in a way, I saved Dom.
That might be my favorite moment from the night, other than the two goals Colorado scored to beat Sporting Kansas City.
